Auguste HERBIN (1882 - 1960)
In 1943 Auguste Herbin created the Plastic Alphabet. He arbitrarily associated with each letter geometric shapes, colors, tones. He used the alphabet as a working process: he chose a word from which he detached each letter, associating that letter with a shape and a color provided by his alphabet, and arranged the shapes and colors so as to balance the table surface.
Born in 1882 in Quiévy died in 1960 in Paris
