Elvira BACH

Born in 1951 in Neuenhain, Elvira Bach is a German painter. She lives and works in Berlin.

She studied glass at the Staatliche Glasfachschule Hadamar and plastic arts at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. She worked as an accessorist and prompter for the theater "Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer" for almost ten years.

In 1982, the artist was the first woman invited to participate in the Documenta de Kassel. It was also this same year that she joined the artists' residence of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
Shortly after, she spent long stays in Senegal, where she got married and Elvira Bach became a mother of two children.

In addition to painting and glass, the artist also practices sculpture, producing large-format works in bronze and plastic.

In the 1980s, artist Elvira Bach was seen as part of the emerging "Neue Wilde" movement in Germany and Austria; these artists painted in a subjective and indifferent way, a certain affirmation of life. Like the Fauves in France, their works of art are characterized by the use of warm and bold colors and claim an art based on instinct.

They separate the color from its reference to the object, in order to accentuate the expression, and react provocatively against visual sensations and softness.

Elvira Bach does work on the image of women and their role in society.
